Anti-wrinkle injections are made with Botulinum Toxin Type A, a protein produced by the bacteria Clostridium Botulinum. This neurotoxic protein has been used in medicine for more than 50 years. It is used currently to treat a wide range of conditions including chronic migraine, blepharospasm (uncontrolled eyelid spasm), Strabismus (crossed eyes), teeth grinding and muscle and movement disorders such as those found with cerebral palsy, stroke, MS, and parkinson disease.
In the cosmetic field, refined Botulinum Toxin Type A is mostly used to reduce wrinkles and lines. It works by blocking nerve signals to targeted muscles - stopping those muscles from contracting. When muscles around the eyes, forehead and between the brows are treated, it causes a relaxation of the area resulting in fewer lines and wrinkles. By preventing frequent creasing of the skin, wrinkles cease to develop and the skin can retain a smooth, youthful appearance.
Anti-wrinkle injections will not remove ‘static lines’ (well worn lines that are still present when your face is at rest). To correct static lines, dermal filler may be useful. Dermal fillers are made from Hyaluronic Acid, a naturally occurring sugar found in our skin that provides volume and hydration. When placed beneath or within the skin, dermal fillers can ‘fill' or ‘plump out’ static facial wrinkles and creases, resulting in a smoother, more youthful appearance. Dermal fillers are also excellent at replacing volume where it has depleted over time, such as in the cheek bone area and lips.
Gippsland Cosmetic Laser Clinic only uses the very highest quality injectable dermal filler gel developed, tested and produced by one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies. None of our filler range is derived from animals and all come impregnated with local anaesthetic, which ensures that every treatment is incredibly comfortable. These premium quality fillers last longer within the skin that most other brands making the need to re-treatment less frequent.
